Three Castles Trial takes place over four days and is based in Llandudno. it runs through the ancient landscapes of Anglesey, Gwynedd and Conwy in North West Wales in the first week of summer, in early June. The Three Castles theme is always ‘relaxed competition’ but that’s even more true for entrants to the Trial, where the emphasis is on a combination of timed regularity road sections and driving tests on private property.
The Trial is a competitive Classic Road Rally, not a Tour, and it’s one that should be approached in the right spirit. As organisers we always want a Three Castles event to be a celebration of the classic car, encouraged and welcomed by the residents of the villages and hamlets it passes through, and that’s still true on this one.
On the road, an enjoyable pace is maintained within the speed limit – this is a sporting event, but it is also easy to appreciate the fine scenery on the general road sections that make up the non-timed road sections.
Fun is also to be had on numerous fiendishly tricky (timed navigational) regularity road sections and various special flowing driving tests, all on smooth tarmac and similar surfaces, in which entrants drive against the clock, on private land of course. Run to a 30mph average, the twists and turns on these sections nonetheless provide plenty of fun for the crew, and again test teamwork as well as driving skill.
Cars will be displaying between 12.30pm and 5.45pm
