Meet the People Behind the Castle
Discover the people who shaped Gwrych, from Lloyd Hesketh Bamford-Hesketh, who built the castle, to his granddaughter Winifred, Countess of Dundonald. Their stories offer an introduction to local history, life on a country estate and the castle’s connections with Welsh art and culture.

Picnics & Refreshments
You are welcome to bring a picnic to enjoy on the East Lawn. Please discuss lunch arrangements with us when booking, particularly for larger groups, and ask about refreshments available on your chosen date.

Access & What to Bring
Much of your visit will be outdoors, so please wear sturdy footwear and bring clothing suitable for the weather.
The castle occupies a hillside, with uneven ground, steps and slopes. A route avoiding steps is available, although it includes slopes and does not reach every area. Please tell us about any access requirements before booking so we can advise on a suitable route.
