While we welcome all visitors, disabled visitors need to bear in mind that the Gwrych Castle Estate is a large property with great distances between various parts of the site. There is no public access at all to the main building due to its ruinous state. The terrain is often uneven, with many steep footpaths. Many of our pathways are unsuitable for wheelchair users and slopes can be tiring for a person assisting. Some self-drive three-wheeled vehicles, other pavement vehicles and powered wheelchairs may have difficulty on Gwrych Castle’s terrain. Sensible footwear is recommended at all times.
Onsite Parking: Is available all year round. There is an area of the parkland set aside for parking for blue badge holders; however, this may not be available at all times, especially during wet weather. Wherever possible alternative parking will be made available.
Toilets: There are no accessible toilets available. Portable (festival style) toilets are available on site. The nearest accessible toilet is at Tesco’s supermarket in Abergele, ¼ mile from the main gate.
Formal Gardens and Gardener’s Tower: there is access to the garden by wheelchair, motorised wheelchair and if arranged with on-site staff, by vehicle. The access path is quite steep and uneven.
As Gwrych Castle is over two hundred years old, substantially ruinous and Grade I listed, we are afraid we are not permitted to alter any part to make it more accessible at present.
We appreciate your understanding.
