Built during the 1830s, this cast iron conservatory was demolished during the 1950s. It is the Trust’s aim to restore it, and for it to be used as a café and shop as well as flexible community space for events.

Where to next – Gardener’s Tower

Based on the Water Tower at Rhuddlan Castle, the Gardener’s Tower is built over two storeys and was restored in 2015, together with the Georgian log store. The ground floor contains the Gardener’s Mess, now an exhibition space, with a working nineteenth century ‘Tortoise Stove’. The first floor contains the ‘Countess’s Writing Room’, originally a formal sitting room built for Lady Emily Hesketh to retire to from the conservatory, but was used principally by her granddaughter, the Countess of Dundonald, as a private retreat.
